Water Poems

27 de agosto de 2008

Water
Water, water everywhere, water all around,
Water in the ocean, water in the ground.
Water in a river, water in a creek,
Water in a faucet with a drip-drip leak!
Water in a fountain, water in a lake,
Water on a flower, as day begins to break.
Water from a waterfall, rushing down from high,
Water from a dark cloud, raining from the sky.
Water boiling hot, water frozen ice,
Water in a blue lagoon, clean and clear and nice.
Water at a fire, gushing through a hose,
Water in a garden, so every flower grows.
Water for the animals swimming in the sea,
Water, water everywhere for you and for me!
by Meish Goldish,

The Water Cycle
When I was young
I used to think
that water camefromthe kitchen sink.
But now I'm older,
and I know,
that water comesfrom rain and snow.
It stays there, waiting,in the sky,
in clouds aboveour world so high.
And when it falls,it flows along,
and splashes outa watery song,
as each raindropis joined by more
and rushes tothe ocean shore,
or to a lake, a brook, a stream,
from which it rises, just like steam.
But while it's down here
what do you think?
Some DOES go to
the kitchen sink!

with Dickery Dean—
He dove in dirty,
And he jumped out clean!"

EarthSavers: Water Conservation Tips for Kids

18 de agosto de 2008

by Ann Svensen
Did you know that every drop of water that runs down the drain ends up flowing into the sewage system? Sending clean water down the drain fills up the sewer and lets dirty water and waste overflow into the streams and oceans. Polluted water can harm, and even kill, animals who drink it and live in it.
What can you do?
Saving water is as easy as turning off a faucet! Here are six simple things you can do at home:
1. Don't keep the water running while you're brushing your teeth.
2. Take shorter showers. Make it a game. Keep an egg timer in the bathroom and see who can get their showers down to three minutes. (And still get clean!)
3. Help your mom or dad fix the dripping faucet. Did you know that it can waste 20 gallons of water a day?
4. Help your dad install a water-saving shower head. In addition to the water it saves, it also saves the fuel that would have been used to heat up the extra hot water. And that reduces pollution.
5. Fill a gallon plastic bottle with water and place it in your toilet tank. (The part in the back!) It will take up the same space as the water usually does, but in a year, it will keep 5,000 gallons of water from going down the drain.
6. Stop throwing away so many batteries. The mercury in old batteries will eventually leak out and poison the water it runs into. What can you do?
o Buy rechargeable alkaline batteries. They can be charged 25 times. That means 25 batteries you didn't have to buy and throw away.

First, every class prepared materials for Chinchas's children. Next, the children enjoyed a funny play. Then, they ate a pizza together. Finally, they played some games. We learned that sharing with others is fun and that there are a lot of things we can do to help. Happy Children's Day to all our kids!

Interés mundial por el agua

17 de agosto de 2008

El agua en el centro del debate
Matt McGrath BBC, Ciencia
