Maths Games.

In Maths class, last week we learned about hundreds, tens and ones. Then we played a game to reinforce the topic. Children enjoy it a lot. I invite all of you to see the enthusiasm in math class and also encourage you to practice at home in the same dynamic and funny way with your kids.

Spoken News

On Monday, September 22nd Lower First Kittens was in charge of the Spoken News.

Chiara Potestá did a great speech as the presenter. First, Rodrigo Rebaza and Shigueo Nakandakari led the prayers. Next, Alexa Ordaya and Francesco Boceta pulled up our national flag. Then, we presented interesting News with Daniela Escobar, Gabriel Guerra, Valeria Callo, Maria Fernanda Sakuray, Andrea Vidarte, Santiago Marky and Fiorella Almanza . The rest of the group presented visual aids.
After that, Fabricio Noblecilla read a reflection about fortitude. Finally, we recited a poem. Rodrigo Aliaga led the school song and made a cheer. Everybody at school enjoyed the news.

I am so proud of you Kittens. Well done Kittens!

Spoken News

On Monday, September 15th Lower First Puppies was in charge of the Spoken News. Alejandra Cossio and Sebastián Salvatierra did a great speech as presenters.

First, Diego Acuña and Daniel Quiroz led the prayers. Next, Nicole Cáceres and Miguel Carrillo pulled up our national flag. Then, we presented interesting News with Maria Alejandra Rocca, Daniela Carcausto, Grecia Assante, Paloma Gálvez, Emmanuel Sheen, Gabriel Moreno, Raúl Malpartida, Gabriela Klauer and Victor Genaro Carranza. The rest of the group presented visual aids.

After that, Mateo Bartra read a reflection about fortitude. Finally, we recited a poem about winter and spring with Sebastián Salomón and Gabriela Klauer. Marta Corbacho and Lourdes Catalán led the school song and made a cheer. Everybody at school enjoyed the news. Well done Puppies!

School News

On Monday 8th, first grade Bear Cubs presented the School news. Maria Fe was the presenter, she has done an excellent job. First Valeria C. and Lucca started praying, then Stephano read the cultural news, after Adriana presented the international news, then Valeria R. talked about national news, Luciana read about school news, sports news were presented by Stephany and Daniela prepared the reflection about the value of the term.

All the students closed the school news with a song and a chant. Finally they sang the school anthem.
They did an extraordinary work.
Congratulations!!!

Scientific Minds In Action

Songs, poems, experiments, problem solving, puppets and much more was what we observed last August 29th at school.
We talked about water. Students worked very hard in their oral presentations and in the material shown in this activity.
At the end of each presentation children gave a nice drop made of recycling material as a souvenir with a written message about how to take care of water.

Spelling Bee Contest 2008

We are going to start our Spelling Bee Contest 2008. We will send 60 words in all (for first grade) and 12 sentences. The list is going to be posted in our Blog on Monday: lowerfirst.blogspot.com .This list is going to be divided into four weeks. The list would be given to the students on Tuesday. The spelling and the dictation would be done on Friday. We will work four weeks of preliminaries and one eliminatory.

In the preliminaries there are no eliminations. Instead each student will receive a point for each word spelled or each sentence written correctly. We are going to record the results in a chart in a large cardboard in the class. By the end of the 4th week we are going to choose the 10 top students. With these 10 students we will work the eliminatory stage. The winner will receive a price.

Dates:
1. First preliminary: From September 1st to September 5th
2. Second preliminary: From September 8th to September 12th
3. Third preliminary: From September 15th to September 19th
4. Fourth preliminary: From September 22nd to September 26th
5. Eliminatory: Monday September 29th

Este año vamos a empezar nuestro Spelling Bee Contest. Enviaremos 60 palabras y 12 oraciones para nuestros alumnos de primer grado. La lista estará publicada en el Blog del Grado los lunes. Pueden visitarlo en la siguiente dirección: lowerfirst.blospot.com . La lista se entregara a los alumnos en cuatro partes, una parte cada martes (Se pegará en el cuaderno). El viernes siguiente será el concurso. Los alumnos deben deletrear en inglés las palabras de la lista, y escribirlas al dictado. También se dictarán las tres oraciones de la semana. Por cada palabra deletreada correctamente o bien escrita los niños ganarán un punto (total cada semana 15 puntos). Por cada oración bien escrita los niños recibirán 2 puntos (total cada semana 6 puntos). El registro se llevará en clase en un cartel colocando los puntajes de cada niño. Al finalizar la cuarta semana se elegirán los 10 mejores alumnos quienes competirán en las eliminatorias para sacar un ganador en cada salón. Luego se determinará el ganador del grado. Los niños ganadores recibirán un premio.
Las fechas son las siguientes:
1. Primera preliminar: del 1 al 5 de setiembre
2. Segunda preliminar: del 8 al 12 de setiembre
3. Tercera preliminar: del 15 al 19 de setiembre
4. Cuarta preliminar: del 22 al 26 de setiembre
5. Eliminatoria: Lunes 29 de setiembre.
